Behind the scenes at Tiffany’s Maleny: a wedding venue interview

Planning a wedding is all about creating a day that reflects who you are and the people (and pets!) who mean the most to you. For couples who consider their dog an important part of the family, finding a wedding venue that understands the special place our four-legged friends hold in our lives can make all the difference.

In this Pawfect Weddings interview, we chat with the team at Tiffany’s Maleny, a picturesque wedding venue nestled in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

With its beautiful surroundings and memorable wedding settings, Tiffany’s Maleny is an interesting one to explore for couples dreaming of a special day in this part of Queensland. We find out more about the venue, its approach to creating meaningful wedding celebrations and what couples hoping to include their dog should know when planning their big day.

What makes your venue dog-friendly?

We love pets as much as you do, so couples are welcome to bring their dogs along and have them take part in the ceremony. With three ceremony locations (our glass-backed chapel, the gardens and the gazebo), there's plenty of open space and fresh hinterland air for four-legged guests.

We're family owned and operated, so we like to be flexible and personal about including the people (and pets) who matter most to you.

What is your experience hosting weddings with dogs?

Since opening in 2011, we've been lucky to welcome pets into our ceremonies. We're a small, hands-on team, so we plan the details with each couple ahead of time to make sure the day runs smoothly for everyone, dogs included.

What should couples consider when bringing their dog?

  • Timing: Pets need to be offsite before food service begins, so plan for your dog to take part in the ceremony and photos, then head home or to a sitter before the reception.
  • A dedicated handler: Arrange a dog wedding chaperone whose only job on the day is looking after your dog, so you and your wedding party can focus on the celebration.
  • Temperament: Think about how your dog copes with crowds, music, applause and lots of new faces.
  • Practicalities: A lead or harness, fresh water, shade and a toilet break before the ceremony all help.
  • Chat to us early: Let us know your plans when you're planning your day so we can work out the best spot for your pup.

What are some tips for helping dogs feel comfortable and included?

  • Walk and exercise your dog beforehand so they're relaxed.
  • Bring familiar comforts such as a favourite blanket, treats and a water bowl.
  • Keep any outfit or accessory lightweight and comfortable, and do a trial run at home.
  • Give them a quiet spot to settle before and after the ceremony.
  • Keep their routine as normal as possible on the day.
  • What do you love about seeing dogs included in weddings?

Dogs bring so much joy and personality to a ceremony. They're part of the family, and seeing them beside their people as they say "I do" makes for some of the most heartwarming moments and photos. It's a privilege to help couples include them.
