Nestled in the beautiful Tuggeranong Valley, Canberra Homestead is a unique wedding venue where historic charm meets rustic country elegance. With picturesque gardens, heritage buildings and peaceful open spaces, this special property provides a beautiful setting for couples looking to create a wedding day filled with character and unforgettable memories.
One of the things that makes Canberra Homestead particularly appealing to dog-loving couples is its pet-friendly approach, allowing you to include your beloved four-legged family member in your wedding celebrations. Whether you're dreaming of garden wedding photos with your dog or simply want them to be part of your special day, this charming venue offers a wonderful backdrop for celebrating with everyone you love.
In our interview, we chat with the team at Canberra Homestead about what makes their venue special, how couples can include their dogs in their wedding plans, and what you need to know when organising a dog-friendly wedding at this beautiful historic property.

What makes your venue dog-friendly?
At Canberra Homestead, dogs are part of the family, so we love welcoming them to weddings. Our venue offers wide open spaces, beautiful gardens, shaded areas, and plenty of room for dogs to be part of the celebration without feeling overwhelmed.
Being a rural-style venue, we're used to animals and enjoy seeing couples include their much-loved pets in one of life's biggest milestones.
What is your experience hosting weddings with dogs?
We've hosted many weddings where dogs have played a special role, from walking down the aisle with the bridal party to being ring bearers, greeting guests, posing for photographs, and joining their families during the reception.
Every dog has their own personality, and it's always wonderful to see how much joy they bring to the day. Some are the centre of attention, while others are happiest quietly relaxing nearby.
What should couples consider when bringing their dog to a wedding?
The biggest consideration is your dog's temperament and comfort level around large groups of people. Weddings can be exciting but also busy and noisy. We always suggest having a trusted family member, friend, or professional pet attendant such as Guests of Honour Pet Chaperones as Kellee and Lee are dedicated to caring for the dog throughout the day.
That way, the couple can fully enjoy their celebration knowing their furry family member is being looked after.
Any tips or advice for helping dogs feel comfortable and included on the day?
Keep their routine as normal as possible, bring familiar bedding or toys, ensure plenty of water is available, and schedule some quiet time away from guests if needed.
It can also help to let them visit the venue before the wedding so they're familiar with the surroundings. Most importantly, don't expect too much from them. Some of the best moments happen when dogs are simply allowed to be themselves.
What do you love about seeing dogs included in weddings at your venue?
Dogs bring an extra layer of happiness and authenticity to a wedding day. They often help everyone relax and create some of the most memorable moments and photographs.
We love seeing couples celebrate with every member of their family present, including the four-legged ones. There is something very special about watching a beloved dog sharing in such a joyful occasion, and the smiles they bring to couples and guests are priceless.
